mosaics

After the citadel and museum, our driver took us to a workshop, which he said was founded as part of Queen Noor's humanitarian efforts.  She had an idea to teach disadvantaged women (whether they were physically or mentally disabled or very poor) an artistic skill so that they could sell art and souvenirs and support themselves instead of begging on the street.  It was an excellent idea, and apparently very successful.

We walked into the workshop area first, where women were making mosaics for wall hangings and table tops, and painting various types of pottery.  One lady let me take a picture of her work in progress:

it's hard to tell now, but someday soon it will be a beautiful table top.

Then, we went into the store.  Sooo many beautiful things for sale - mostly mosaic-oriented.  Everything they sell goes to benefit the ladies who make them.

We bought some nice things for our family for Christmas, and we bought ourselves a pretty good Christmas gift too:

our new table! hopefully. if it arrives in one piece. eventually.

It was mostly Bear's idea.  I mean.  I picked it.  But he was all, "yeah, let's get it!" And I was all, "that was easy."

So, after the Roman Theater, the Citadel, and the workshop, we were pretty hungry.  We found a good authentic-looking Jordanian restaurant on the way to our next destination and got a table.  They had a buffet, so we chose to go with that so we could be on the road quicker.  We were excitedly anticipating our delicious smorgasbord of Jordanian food.  We lined up at the buffet and found a lovely assortment of Chinese food.  Too bad I hate Chinese food.

On the bright side, that was basically the worst part of our trip.

I love your new table almost as much as I love my mosaic cross! Thank you so much for all my goodies. I treasure them all!
