making herself at home

I try to invite Outside Kitty inside every day, just to try to get her used to being indoors again in the hopes that she'll let us keep her.  We want her to get used to being close to us and all our stuff so that we can eventually get her into a carrier and fly her across the world without giving her a heart attack.  We'll see.

I was thinking of maybe naming her Nelly, like Nervous Nelly, because she gets pretty nervous when she's inside.  When she's outside, we can pet her, and she comes up to the door and asks to come in, and acts like a slightly skittish but basically normal cat.  When she's inside, she won't let us get anywhere near her, she won't come anywhere near us, and getting her to go back outside again is pretty tricky.  She wants to go outside, but we can't just open the door wide and stand aside because then everybody would make a run for it.  So we have to stand next to the door when it's open, and she is very unhappy with the idea of running past us to get outside.  Which is weird, since she's fine with running past us to get inside.  Alas, you cannot apply logic to cat behavior.

Other than that whole stay away from me attitude, she's cool with being inside sometimes.  She likes the cat bed in the kitten room, and she's also taken a shine to the new condo.
